Manipulating images
This first image that me and Sophie made was to suite the conventions of a romance film with the images provided, we could do whatever we wanted with them crop, cut, edit etc. What we created was a film called "Love From Above", its basically a love between to teenagers but the boy dies but his presence and love is still felt by the girl who is still alive. The clouds that surround the image are of a warm orange colour which can resemble love, the tombstone and cross resembles the boy who has passed away.
HORROR
For this poster we had to use the same images we used for the first romance poster but give it a dark twist to suite the conventions of a Horror film. The boy in the image is holding a knife which suggest he is a killer of some kind. The girl is important to the plot because she is someone who meets with the boy first hand, she is trying to escape him, she uses a cross to repel him because he is the devil.
The clouds used in the poster have been edited to look black rather than orange because it creates a more Horror related theme.

How do film posters accompany the trailer
The poster accompanies the trailer rather well because it shows the main character (Stallone) all geared up with body armour, guns, knives and mags. The trailer shows the action that the Expendables deal with, gunfights, fist fights ,explosions and much more but they don't feature in the poster, which I like because it takes up a more serious tone instead of a cheap over the top action film. Its shows that Stallone means business this time, also the black and white tone which adds a certain mystery to the plot, but the "August" is highlighted in red which could resemble the blood shed in the film.
You can tell by the poster the film is a comedy with potential action involved because of the expressions on the characters faces, also the "Fake cops Real Trouble". This is exactly what the trailer showcases because its all comedy based with lots of action thrown in their too, I would say the poster shows the film off very well.

Aspects of 2 Films
A Million ways to die --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBk5aynI6Bs
Lone Survivor --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVB0tl_Wxvk
Analyse the title of the film –what information do we have before we even see any moving images?
From each of the titles we can tell what genre is being represented. For example a million ways to die in the west sets the scene of a western and how traitorous it can be, also because the font is comic it suggests the film could be of a less serious matter. Lone survivor is in bold capital letters which mean its a serious film because there's no colour of fancy font.
Identify the genre(s) – In what ways does the trailer communicate the genre of the film? Codes and conventions. Give specific examples!
A million ways to die in the west communicates the genre of the film by adding a montage of comical clips to the trailer, combined with some funny one liners, which tells the audience its a comedy e.g. when the main character is talking to the tribe he communicates with them by saying "Mila Kunis... Mila Kunis".
Lone survivor communicates the genre of the film by showing clips of the story and the battle of survival that surrounds Mark Wahlbergs character. This identifies the genre as a hardcore thriller, action film. e.g. gun fights, explosions, war.
Identify the target audience(s) – Explain how you know this from the trailer.
A million ways to die in the west is mainly aimed towards people who like the film ted or the show Family Guy, because it uses the same producer Seth Mcfarlane. I would say its mainly aimed for teenagers because they enjoy and understand the humour.
Lone survivor is aimed mainly for teenage boys and middle aged men because its a war based film, which capture boys/men's attentions because they enjoy the theme of war and the action that ensues.
Identify the USP – Explain what the unique selling point is for each film.
A million ways to die in the west's USP is the fact that its been made by the creators of Ted and Family guy because these movies/shows have a huge fan base and following, meaning many people will want to see it because they know what type comedy it will contain, so they can enjoy it.
Lone Survivor's USP is the main actor Mark Wahlberg because he is a very famous actor who is critically acclaimed in the role of which he plays. People may not be a fan of the genre but are a fan of the actor which means lots more people will come and see the film.

explanation of brief
Woohoo we've reached A2 media. Basically it comprises of us creating our own promotional trailer for a film that we'll eventually create, in whatever genre we prefer, from horror to comedy. For our brief we have to produce a media portfolio that has a main and ancillary text, we also have to have a presentation for our research and evaluation in digital formats.
Looking forward to what the course has to bring!!!!
